German Shepherd With Muzzle

Animal Transportation Guidelines

Our Animal Transportation Guidelines, were updated in October 2018. These changes are for the comfort and safety of all passengers and crew, and ensures we have a consistent policy across our North Stradbroke Island and Southern Moreton Bay Islands services.

We understand that pets are part of the family, and wish to remind you that all animals must travel accompanied. Animals other than dogs should be restrained in a suitable crate, basket or container at all times. As an owner, please ensure that you clean up any mess made by your pet.

Whilst not a change to our current terms and conditions, we would also like to remind you that animals are not permitted in cafe areas where food is prepared or consumed.

Travelling with dogs

Dogs often become protective of their owners and their owners' possessions. Passengers travelling with a dog must ensure that the dog is adequately restrained and controlled at all times. Dogs acting in an aggressive manner will be refused travel.

  • If your dog is travelling inside the passenger cabin of a vehicle, ensure they are suitably restrained so that they cannot bite another person.
  • If your dog is not travelling inside a vehicle, they must be wearing a properly fitted muzzle and lead. This includes dogs travelling in an open part of the vehicle such as a ute tray.
  • Dogs travelling on passenger ferries should be clean and dry, and not sitting on a seat.

A lead tied around a dog's nose is not considered an appropriate muzzle. Muzzles are available for purchase on board our ferries and in our offices at Cleveland, Redland Bay and Dunwich.

Guide and Assistance Animals

Certified guide, hearing or assistance animals are allowed throughout SE Queensland terminals and ferries. Seating restrictions, containment and muzzling requirements do not apply. Handlers may be asked to show their identity card or Animal Assistance Pass, certified by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.

Animal welfare organisations

SeaLink SE Queensland is proud to support animal welfare organisations. Handlers from registered wildlife and animal welfare organisations are authorised to transport animals unaccompanied provided they are in a suitable box, container or basket.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about this important policy.  We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you on board soon.
